Senior heavyweight Josh Daryoush and 160-pounder Bradley Taylor finished off their Whitman wrestling careers in fine fashion at this weekend’s State Tournament at Cole Field House on the University of Maryland’s campus. Bradley took 2nd place in his weight class and Josh took 3rd in his. With only two wrestlers Whitman still managed to place in a tie for 16th out of 72 total teams who qualified wrestlers for States!
Bradley Taylor won his first two matches on Friday by a score of 4-1 and 2-0 to get into the semifinals. He then won his semifinal match on Saturday morning by a score of 4-3 over Tola Morakinyo of Wilde Lake. Bradley wrestled tough but came up short in his State Final appearance losing a tough match to Austin Wenzlaff of Tuscarora by a score of 12-2. This was Bradley’s first placement in the State Tournament. Bradley finished the year with a record of 26-7.
Josh Daryoush also won his first two matches on Friday with a fall at 3:18 and a score of 7-1 in the quarterfinals. Josh then lost his semifinal on Saturday to Jason Johnson of River Hill by fall. However, Josh was able to rebound and regroup and wrestle admirably by winning his next match over Dylan Dopson of North Hagerstown by a score of 4-2 and then beating Lorenzo Maddox of North County by a score of 6-1 to place 3rd in the State Tournament. This was also Josh’s first placement at States. He finished the year with an impressive record of 30-2!
