On December 15th, Whitman traveled to Inwood, West Virginia (located just south of Martinsburg) to participate in the two day Musselman Duals Tournament. This was the Vikings first appearance at this event which included 18 teams from West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia. The format of this duals tournament was such that each team wrestled their entire 14 member lineup against another team’s lineup. The Vikings had 4 duals on Friday and 5 more on Saturday for nine meets total. Needless to say this was a lot of wrestling compressed into two days.
Going into this tournament we had not previously wrestled any of the nine teams we were to face. On Friday we squared off against Hedgesville (WV), South Garrett (MD), Spring Valley (WV) and Berkley Springs (WV) on Friday. We then went up against Clarke County (WV), Linganore (MD), Buckhannon Upshur (WV), Hampshire (WV) and Winfield (WV) on Saturday. The competition was top notch and the depth of our Varsity line up was tested over and over throughout both days. On an individual level, the Vikings performed relatively well with an individual win loss record of 53 and 67. However, 13 of those losses were forfeits so when you eliminate those we actually went 53 and 54. Unfortunately, the team score was a bit disappointing with the Vikings winning only 3 of their dual matches (Spring Valley 34-30, Clarke County 51-12 & Buckhannon Upshur 42-21) and dropping the other 6.
Shown below are the individual wrestler “unofficial” results from the tournament:
