Two Vikings ended their seasons on the medal podium at this past weekend’s Maryland 4A/3A State Wrestling Tournament! Mitch Fenton won four out of five matches, earning the bronze medal in the 132 lb weight class. Only a sophomore, Fenton has an excellent chance to win the State title before he graduates. Max Sessions finished his high school wrestling career in style, winning three out of five matches. Max won the fifth place medal in the 195 lbs category.
Congratulations to Mitch and Max for a tremendous season!
Whitman’s Wrestling team had a very successful outing at this past weekend’s 4A/3A West Region Championships. Eight wrestlers earned top six finishes, propelling the team to third place in the competition. Mitch Fenton now owns back-to-back Region Championship crowns as he once again outclassed his opponents in the 132lb class! Max Sessions blazed his way to the 195 lb finals, where he won second place in a tightly-contested match. Also prevailing in hard-fought matches were: Jack Calder (3rd–152lbs); Kevin Baker (4th–160lbs); Stephen Sharbaugh (5th–113lbs); Matthew McClanahan (5th–182lbs); Harriet Symington (6th–106lbs); and Will Baker (6th–126lbs).
The wrestling season wraps up this Friday and Saturday, March 7th-8th, when Mitch, Max, Jack and Kevin will compete in the State Championships at UMD’s Cole Field House.
