Four Whitman wrestlers placed at this past weekend’s MCPS Wrestling Championships. Mitch Fenton convincingly won the 132 lb County title by pinning his first three opponents and dominating the fourth! Max Sessions also cruised to the finals, earning 2nd place in the 195 lb weight class. Also placing for the Vikings were Jack Calder, 3rd at 152 lbs, and Stephen Sharbaugh, 5th at 113 lbs.
Mitch, Max, Jack, Stephen, Harriet Symington, James Bamberger, Will Baker, Jacob Cutler, Kevin Baker and Matthew McClanahan will continue their seasons, having qualified for next weekend’s 4A/3A West Region Championships at Sherwood High School.
Whitman’s JV wrestlers left no opponent unturned at Saturday’s 2014 Montgomery County JV Wrestling Tournament! Whitman boasted three Champions – Nick Panlibuton, Ezra Alexander and Zach Salem-Mackall—and two Runners-Up – Kevin Cullinane and Braedan McKee. Also placing in the top four were Sam Sadeghi (3rd), Marcos Solloso (3rd), Jacob Winch (3rd), Alex Kang (4th) and Adin Kramer (4th).
The Varsity wrestlers have their County Tournament this Friday and Saturday February 21-22 at Gaithersburg High School.
Whitman’s 13-1 dual meet record places it among the top four teams in the 3A-4A West Region, which means that we have qualified for the Region Dual Meet Tournament. The tournament will take place Wednesday, February 12th , at Damascus High School. Whitman will compete against Sherwood High School in a semifinal match, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Damascus and Churchill will compete in the other semifinal at the same time. If we win our semifinal match, we will compete in the final round, which starts at 7:30 p.m.
