Q: When does the season start?
A: The season starts on November 15th.
Q: What time is practice?
A: Practice on weekdays is from 2:45 – 5:15. Saturday practices are from
9:00 – 11:00.
Q: Do athletes get cut?
A: The wrestling team does not cut athletes. If your child decides to join or
leave the team, they do it on their own.
Q: What days do you practice?
A: We typically practice Monday through Saturday. Once competition
starts, Saturday practices are replaced with matches.
Q: Do I have to come everyday?
A: You are expected to practice and compete with the team on every

Q: How do the wrestlers get to and from events?
A: Typically we travel on a bus. For tournaments and overnight trips, we
will use student/coach/and parent drivers.

Q: What equipment do I need?
A: You will need wrestling shoes and headgear.
Q: Will I have to cut weight?
A: Whitman coaches are strongly against any rapid weight loss methods.
Wrestlers are certified by a physician as to the lowest weight they are
allowed to wrestle. The coaching staff promotes a well regimented
healthy diet that will help increase performance and conditioning
throughout the season.
Q: How is the lineup determined? Varsity & JV?
A: Wrestle-off’s will determine the starter at the Varsity and JV levels. The
best person in each weight class will wrestle varsity, the next will wrestle
JV. The remaining wrestlers at a weight class will fill exhibition spots and
will gain as many exhibition matches as possible during dual meets. All
Exhibition & JV wrestlers will wrestle in JV tournaments.
Q: My son has never wrestled before, will he be lost?
A: Many team members never wrestled before high school. The first half of
the season is dedicated to introducing the new wrestlers into the sport
and providing a knowledge base which will help them learn better and
