Whitman qualified six wrestlers for the State Tournament which is held in Cole Field House at the University of Maryland.
Seniors Eric Harder and Andrew Follmann capped fantastic careers each with a second consecutive placing in the top 6th. Eric wrestled extremely well in placing 3rd at States for the second consecutive year. Each year Eric’s only loss at States came to the eventual State Champion. Andrew matched Eric’s 4 wins at the State Tournament in placing 4th for the second consecutive year. Andrew capped off his career as a 4 year varsity starter with 115 wins. Eric finished his 3 years on Varsity with 95 career wins.
Senior Mike Harder and Senior Ned Daryoush narrowly missed out on placing. Both wrestlers went 2-2 at the State Tournament. Joining them was Junior Josh Daryoush who also went 2-2. Junior, Region Champ, Brad Taylor went 1-1. Unfortunately he was injured in his second match on Friday night and was unable to continue on Saturday.

The Whitman wrestling team capped off another amazing season with a third place showing at the 4A/3A State Tournament. The Vikes qualified an impressive 7 wrestlers for States.
Senior 112 pounder Sawyer Symington qualified for States for the second consecutive year. Sawyer went 1-2 in the tournament contributing to the team’s impressive 78 points.
Junior 130 pounder Eric Harder won his first two matches on Friday night to put him into the semi-finals and automatically place. There he lost to the eventual State Champ. However, Eric wrestled aggressively Saturday afternoon and won two tough matches to take third.
Junior 140 pounder Mike Harder went 2-2 in the tournament. Mike wrestled very well and missed out on placing by one match in the tournament.
Junior 145 pounder Andrew Follmann also placed in the tournament. Andrew is also a two-time state qualifier. Andrew lost his first match on Friday and wrestled all the way back to get into the 3rd/4th place match and went 4-2 in the tournament to place 4th in his weight class.
Senior 189 pounder Taylor Leighton is a four-time state qualifier!! Taylor is a three-time state placer taking 4th, 2nd, and 2nd. Taylor secured two falls in his first two matches Friday night. Taylor came back on Saturday and won his semifinal to advance to the finals for the second straight year!! Unfortunately, Taylor lost a very close match to a tough opponent 5-3. Taylor finished the year with an incredible 39-2 record!!
Senior 215 pounder Danny Lee was the fourth Whitman state placer. Danny is a three-time state qualifier and a three-time state placer. Danny placed 6th, 2nd, and 3rd the past three years. Danny won his first match by fall but then lost a tough match in triple overtime in the quarters. Danny however came back and wrestled with pride to win four straight matches on Saturday to take 3rd place. In his last match he beat the same wrestler who beat him in the quarters by wrestling very aggressive and offensive.
Junior heavyweight Ned Daryoush also wrestled very well on both days of the tournament. Ned went 2-2 in the tournament and missed placing by one match.

The Whitman Vikings were tied going into the finals at Cole Field House Saturday night at the State Tournament. Both the Vikings and Old Mill had two State finalists and Old Mill was able to secure one win while both Danny Lee wrestled valiantly but came up just short. The entire team wrestled very well and placed second as a team.
Wrestling for the Vikings at Cole were 112-Sawyer Symington, 119-Eric Harder, 125-Andrew Follmann, 145-Eric Beverly, 160-Steven Fisher, 171-Taylor Leighton, 189-Aaron Norris, and 215-Danny Lee. Sophomores Andrew Follmann and Eric Harder were able to secure one win and two wins respectively. Eric Harder was one win away from placing. Aaron Norris capped an amazing career at Whitman with a personal best of 5th place at States. He was a three time state placer. Eric Beverly also completed an incredible career and wrestled back valiantly on Saturday to place fourth for the Vikings. Fellow senior Steven Fisher lost to the eventual state runner up but secured 4 pins on Saturday to place 3rd a year after he placed 6th at States to finish off his own incredible four years at Whitman.
Juniors Taylor Leighton and Danny Lee both finished 2nd to lead the way for the Vikings. Leighton lost a close one to Nadjitade Badje in the finals while Lee lost a two point match to Mwanza Wamalumba. This is a career best for both wrestlers at States.
